food for thoughts
In 2018, as part of the then Indianapolis Art Center’’s Faculty Show, I exhibited Food for Thoughts, a piece which consisted of hundreds of ceramic fortune cookies, free for the taking, for the duration of the exhibit. Each cookie contained a quote, designed to remind us of our common humanity - loves, struggles, hopes and dreams – with the aim of spreading some kindness and joy. Over 700 cookies were made and taken.
At this time, I was relatively new to Instagram. I decided to encourage folks to share their “fortunes” by printing on each quote the hashtag #fortunatecookies by @pegalito. The shares were amazing. It was wonderful to see these wishes spread on social media.
Later, my article on this experience Food for Thoughts appeared in the March/April 2019 issue of Pottery Making Illustrated.
